The Gophers pass for only 169.8 yards per game, with Conor Rhoda 54-for-97 passing for 786 yards, 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Only one receiver has emerged so far as a favorite target: Tyler Johnson. He has 17 catches for 366 yards and 3 touchdowns. But Minnesota has been strong on the ground with 190 yards per game.

Minnesota relies on the running back tandem of Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks to lead the offense. Smith has 108 carries for 398 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brooks has used his 65 attempts to pick up 315 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Spartans are averaging 22.4 points per game and surrendering 16.4 points per game in their 4-1 2-0 start to the season.

QB Brian Lewerke has been Michigan State’s biggest star. Lewerke is 95-for-155 passing for 1,057 yards, 9 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions. He also leads the Spartans in rushing with 309 yards and 3 scores.
