After seven games of the 2017-18 Premier League season, Manchester United were tied on 19 points with Manchester City at the top of the table, second only by virtue of having scored one less goal.

With one match remaining of the campaign, the Red Devils are still second, but they are 19 points behind champions City having scored 38 fewer goals.

It is set to be United’s highest finish and best points and goals tally since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, but the gulf to the Sky Blues is gaping.

Jose Mourinho will be eager for his side to end their season with three more points against Watford.

United have already secured second spot in the Premier League thanks to their 0-0 draw at West Ham United on Thursday.

Watford, meanwhile, could move into the top 10 with a victory, or even a draw, against the Red Devils.

It is likely the Hornets will be playing a much-changed United side, as Mourinho has confirmed he will rest some first-team regulars ahead of the FA Cup final against Chelsea, including No. 1 goalkeeper David de Gea, per the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst: “I play some players that didn’t play today, I play [Sergio] Romero, I play Daley Blind, I play Eric Bailly, I play [Marcus] Rashford, I play [Anthony] Martial, I play [Juan] Mata.”

It will hardly be a weakened side, though, and Watford are going to have to put in an impressive display to take anything away from Old Trafford.

The visitors could welcome back midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah for his first appearance since September—he has been out with a severe knee injury—per injury analyst Ben Dinnery
